This magnificent deity image is formed around a cylindrical urn which was intended to hold food or drink offerings to the deceased. The fabulously attired God is seated - awesome but not without benevolence - as if expecting the homage of worshippers who vanished long ago.We are inclined to show him the utmost respect, not being quite certain over which realms he might still hold sway. A superb example of Zapotec art which reaches deep into the subconscious of the beholder. - (PF.0850)
